NATO Tidak Aktifkan Pasal 5 Meski Missil Iran Dihancurkan
Latar News - JAKARTA - Secretary-General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Mark Rutte told Reuters on Thursday that the shooting down of a ballistic missile heading for Turkey by NATO air defenses did not provide an immediate reason to activate the alliance's Article 5 collective defense clause.
"No one is talking about Article 5," Rutte said, launching Al Arabiya from Reuters (5/3).
"The most important thing is that our enemies saw yesterday that NATO is very strong and very vigilant, and even more vigilant, if possible, since Saturday," he added.
Previously, Turkey said NATO air defenses shot down an Iranian ballistic missile as it headed into Turkish airspace on Wednesday, marking the first time a member of the alliance has been involved in a Middle East conflict and raising the possibility of an expansion involving its bloc allies.
Meanwhile, the General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces on Thursday denied firing missiles at Turkey, saying the Islamic Republic respects the "friendly" sovereignty of Turkey, according to a statement carried by Iranian media.
It is known that Article 5 of the NATO alliance stipulates that an attack on one member of the alliance is an attack on all other members.
Rutte's secretary-general said NATO supported the United States in its attack on Iran because the country "almost became a threat to Europe as well."
It is known that the US and Iran held "Operation Epic Furry" version of Washington or "Operation Roaring Lion" version of Tel Aviv on Saturday, quoted from ABC.
The attack left hundreds of people dead in Iran, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and a number of senior Tehran officials.
As the US-Iran war entered its sixth day, the conflict has spread beyond the Gulf countries and into Asia, shaking global markets and prompting thousands of stranded tourists and residents to try to flee the Middle East.
